
With our handy bull’s-eye cache rating system, you can know exactly what you’re getting into before you go. Each cache gets rated on its size, ruggedness of terrain, difficulty to find and overall awesomeness. Together, these four elements make up a virtual bull’s-eye that allows you to determine if a cache is right for you with one quick glance. The container should be found in an obvious place after only a few minutes of searching.
The container is hidden or disguised to blend in with the surroundings, but should be found within half an hour of searching.
The container is either very well hidden or could be easily looked over because of its camouflage. It may require an hour or more of searching.
The container could be in one of many possible hiding places and/or its camouflage could make it indistinguishable from the environment. Even experienced geocachers may take multiple days or trips to find this cache.
The container is so well hidden that it requires particular knowledge, skills or equipment to find.
Caches should be located directly along the path, which is paved and relatively flat. Hikes are half a mile or less.
Suitable for small children. The cache is located along marked trails. Hikes are less than two miles with limited elevation changes and overgrowth.
Suitable for most adults and older children. Hikes may be off-trail, longer than two miles with steep elevation changes and a moderate amount of overgrowth.
Suitable for experienced hikers. Treks may include 10+ miles of off-trail hiking and require overnight camping. Expect very heavy overgrowth and steep elevation changes.
The use of SCUBA gear, rock-climbing equipment, boats, off-road vehicles or other specialized equipment is required. Only those qualified in the use of this gear or accompanied by an experienced guide should attempt to find this cache.
